The Main Titles
Although simple in execution, The Boy as a feature and as a main titles project presented itself as a challenge. The largest challenge regarding the titles was to create a main title card that summed up the concept of the film in 10 seconds without giving the plot away.
Taking queues from the production design of the film, the scene is a simple time-lapse of daylight passing over ornate wallpaper. As the light passes by, the 'Boy' type begins the capture the light and reveal itself.
The idea was to create a sequence that shows that the type 'The Boy' was always there in the back ground, watching and studying his victim before claiming them as his own.

The Project
The Boy is a horror/thriller that was loosely based on a true story. IMDB writes: An American nanny is shocked that her new English family's boy is actually a life-sized doll. After she violates a list of strict rules, disturbing events make her believe that the doll is really alive.
The Mask Design
Another challenge in this film was to create a mask for our villain, Brahms. Originally there was no mask factored into this project. Yet upon revisiting the films concept, a decision was made to include this. After all, it’s a bloody horror film, eh?
The mask was an asset that covered the burn masks Brahms received as a child. The goal was to take the what would have been an existing burn victim’s recovery mask, and altering it to suit Brahm’s identity. Although our mask designs did not make it to the final film, our early concepts can be seen below.
